A group of 45 runners in the Dutch town of Zwolle calling themselves the 'Warmlopers' are hoping to raise funds for INF's work in Nepal. Wearing matching T-shirts donated by three sponsors, the group will run in the annual Zwolle half-marathon on Saturday 9 June to raise money for wheelchairs and home modifications for disabled clients of INF's Partnership For Rehabilitation programme. Funds have already started to come in, and the group hopes to raise a total of around €11,000 [equivalent to US$14,000] for INF.

Australian INF supporters Pamela King and Colin Judge found a novel way of helping INF when they were married last month. Pamela and Colin asked their friends not to buy them traditional wedding presents but instead to make a donation to INF. Around four hundred family members and friends attended Pamela and Colin's wedding, and gave a total of AU$11,000 to INF. 'We would really like to thank Pamela and Colin,' says INF Australia CEO Phil Morris.

Yesterday INF launched a discussion about faith in the workplace for Nepali Christians. The discussion was held at Patan Koinonia church in Kathmandu and was attended by pastors and leaders of different organisations. In recent months INF has been conducting a workplace survey among Nepali Christians to find out where they are, what kind of work they do, what are their concerns and what are the issues that they face. Data on 377 people was collected.

Eight-year-old Anitya Sonkhar comes from Karkado village. 'Anitya comes from a poor family,' says her non-formal education teacher Anita Palekhe. 'There are many in the family and so Anitya has been unable to go to school, as she had to work to earn some income. When non-formal education classes started in Anitya's area, she had the opportunity to study and can now read and write in Nepali and English, and count and write from 1 to 100. Anitya's parents' attitude has changed, and she could have a brighter future. She is starting at a local government school.

World TB Day 2012

Tomorrow is World TB Day, which is marked around the world each year to raise awareness of tuberculosis, a major health problem in many countries. INF began services for TB patients in Nepal's Kaski District in the 1950s. In 1973 INF TB clinics began in the Dang and Surkhet Districts, and in 1986 INF became an official counterpart of the government's TB Programme in Nepal's Mid Western Region. INF's TB Referral Centre in Banke District was established at that time, and in 1992 INF TB work also began in the remote, mountainous Jumla District.

The story of Kamala Pasai shows how a little motivation and a lot of hard work can bring about great changes in the lives of women in poor Nepali communities. Kamala is 50 years old and lives in the village of Mahuwa in Nepal's Kapilvastu District. After Kamala heard about the INF-supported 'revolving fund' organised by a local community self-help group, she quickly decided that she must go forward. Kamala was determined to make the most of this opportunity to improve her situation.
