INF Nepal's

Green Pastures Hospital Medical Services & Care:

The Dermatology Department at INF Hospital, rooted in its legacy of leprosy care, now offers a wide range of dermatology services. While leprosy treatment remains central, the department has expanded to include outpatient consultations, iontophoresis, NB-UVB phototherapy for conditions like vitiligo and psoriasis, electrocautery, and dermatoscopy for detailed skin examination. It also actively diagnoses new leprosy cases, manages reactions, neuritis, and ulcers, and provides health education and self-care guidance, supporting both leprosy and broader dermatological needs with comprehensive, specialised care.

In the early 1990s, the INF team in Pokhara recognised the need to extend healthcare to remote areas in western Nepal. This led to the first ear camp in Beni in 1993, a program that ran biannually until 2015, when the dedicated Ear Department at Green Pastures Hospital was established.

Specialising in hearing disability diagnosis and treatment, the department has since expanded to include comprehensive ear, nose, and throat (ENT) care. Services include ear checkups, cleaning, audio diagnostics, vertigo treatment, and specialised ear surgeries.

The department is equipped with an ear-specific operating theatre, advanced surgical technology (including microscopic and endoscopic equipment with video capability), and systems for diagnosing hearing loss in newborns.

The department also uses tools such as the VEMP and VHIT for vertigo diagnosis, a KTP laser for stapedotomy, and a real-ear measurement device (VERA) for precise hearing aid fitting, providing cutting-edge care in ENT for western Nepal.

The Orthopedic Department at INF’s Green Pastures Hospital offers comprehensive care, from trauma management to specialised spine treatments. Services include orthopedic and spine consultations, reconstructive and spine surgeries, acute fracture management, spinal cord injury and deformity correction, congenital deformity correction, pain management, and regenerative procedures like PRP therapy.

The General/Plastic Surgery Department at Green Pastures Hospital specialises in reconstructive surgeries, including SCI bed sore coverage, burn contracture release, skin grafting, hand and foot reconstruction, facial palsy correction, scar revision, venous ulcer management, and peripheral vascular disease treatment. It also offers advanced treatments like VAC (Vacuum Assisted Closure) and LPRF (Leucocyte and Platelet Rich Fibrin) dressings, with plans to expand general surgical services.

The palliative care journey at Green Pastures Hospital (GPH) began in 2013 with healthcare training, expanding to clinical services in 2016 with two dedicated beds. Today, GPH’s integrated Palliative Care and Chronic Disease Unit (PCCD) provides comprehensive care with 14 beds and a wide range of services. These include inpatient and outpatient care, day therapy, a children’s palliative program (Lily ko bagaicha), and a sensory garden for holistic well-being. PCCD also offers bereavement support, community visits, pain management, wound care education, end-of-life care, and a mortuary service. The unit’s services are enhanced with narcotics management, syringe driver use, and regular in-service education, all aiming to bring compassionate, comprehensive care to patients and their families.

Introduced in 1993, psychosocial counselling expanded into the Social Service Department (SSD) in 2009. SSD offers charity assistance, advocacy, and peer counselling to support patients affected by leprosy, disability, and chronic illness. Aligned with INF’s mission, SSD fosters hope, resilience, and improved quality of life through comprehensive care.

The department offers comprehensive services, including the provision of medications and expert consultation on prescriptions, ensuring that patients receive the appropriate guidance and support for their treatment plans.

Our ambulance service offers dependable, round-the-clock transportation for patients in need. Fully equipped and ready 24/7, our ambulances ensure safe, swift access to hospitals and healthcare facilities, providing critical support when it matters most.

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) department at Green Pastures Hospital offers comprehensive care for neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. Originally focused on leprosy, PMR has expanded into physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and prosthetics and orthotics.

The Physiotherapy unit helps restore movement and function with specialised neuro, pediatric, and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation, including therapies like suspension, exercise, and electrotherapy. Occupational Therapy, Nepal’s first such department, focuses on daily living skills, offering pediatric and neurorehabilitation, hand therapy, and palliative care support.

The Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) department addresses communication, swallowing, and feeding issues, with services for both pediatric and adult patients, including post-stroke support and advanced diagnostic tools. The Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O) team provides custom prosthetics and orthotics, supporting patients from design to rehabilitation and working with other departments to enhance patient mobility and quality of life.

These units together form a strong, integrated support system, enabling holistic recovery and independence for patients at Green Pastures Hospital.

The Department of Anesthesia at Green Pastures Hospital (GPH) is dedicated to delivering safe, effective anesthesia care for patients undergoing surgery and other invasive procedures, with a focus on patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes. For over 30 years, INF has provided comprehensive anesthesia services, including pre-anesthetic evaluations, general and regional anesthesia (spinal, epidural, and peripheral nerve blocks), post-operative care, ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, pain management, and critical care planning. This expertise ensures high-quality care throughout the surgical journey.

Satish Story:

Diagnosed with leprosy at 17, Satish began a challenging journey marked by painful nerves and a clawed left hand. After an initial course of multidrug therapy (MDT) helped manage his condition but left side effects.

He was referred to Green Pastures Hospital (GPH) for specialised care. There, a skilled team performed nerve decompression surgery, restoring movement and sensation in his hand. Intensive therapy and dedicated post-surgical care helped Satish regain control, mobility, and independence.
