Ramesh Chetri was living a simple, happy life as a farmer in rural Nepal. The 42-year-old was known for his cheerful spirit and enjoyed working in the fields and looking after his cattle. At home, he was a loving husband and father to a son and a daughter.
But everything changed few months ago.
One day, while walking near his cattle shed, Ramesh slipped and fell from a height of about seven feet. The fall caused a serious spinal cord injury at the C5 level. This type of injury affects movement and feeling in the arms and legs. Ramesh was left paralyzed and unable to move.
His family took him to a private hospital where he had emergency spinal surgery. The treatment was costly. His family used all their savings and had to borrow money. Still, his condition remained the same. Doctors then advised them to take Ramesh to Green Pastures Hospital (GPH) for rehabilitation.
When he arrived at GPH, Ramesh had bedsores and was completely dependent on his wife. He could not move his hands or legs. But the team at GPH began his care with patience and skill.
After 90 days of focused care and therapy, Ramesh slowly regained strength in his hands. He can now feed himself, change his clothes, and do other basic tasks. These small improvements brought great relief to his wife. There is also hope that Ramesh might walk again someday with the help of a walker.
To support him in daily movement, GPH gave him a new wheelchair. With a hopeful smile, Ramesh said,
“I have hope that with rehabilitation, I will regain my mobility and keep moving forward.”
Ramesh and his wife expressed deep thanks to the GPH team for their care and to the Medical Charity Fund, whose support made his treatment possible.
Ramesh’s story is one of strength, healing, and hope for the future.
